13.07.2011 - The party left School on schedule at 7.30 am. Mr Meekings phoned the School at 10.00 am to report that the journey was going well, they were just south of Sheffield - "not far to go now!" and the children were all in fine spirits and had been playing games all the way.
11.15 am - Mr Meekings phoned to advise that they had arrived at the Railway Museum safely (the first item on their Itinerary) and were keen to go and explore - they will be visiting The Minster later before carrying on the short distance to their Hotel. All the children are happy and excited.
2.45 pm - Noisy telephone call received from Mr Meekings and the children to advise that they were having a great time, were just about to board the Land Train to the Minster - bit shout from all the children to confirm they are all happy!!!
5.45 pm - Just arrived at the Hotel - which is really lovely. Children busily unpacking and when they have finished, they are off for their much needed dinner.
8.45 pm - Mr Meekings phoned to say that dinner was delicious - a choice of Roast Chicken with Yorkshire Pudding, Roast Potatoes and Vegetables or Cheesy Pasta Bake, followed by Jam Sponge Pudding and Custard!!! - thoroughly enjoyed by all the children. After a break to allow the food to go down, it was off to the Swimming Baths - an Olympic-sized pool which they had virtually all to themselves. If the noise and screaming and laughing was anything to go by, the children were having a great time, the girls were all jumping in the pool holding hands at the time. After the swim, the plan was to return back to the Hotel, have a snack and drink and off to bed - after a long, action-packed day, it was anticipated that all would sleep well..........further report in the morning!!!
14.07.2011 - 9.00 am - An uninterrupted night's sleep was had by all! - no problems at all. The children are all up, washed and have just enjoyed a lovely breakfast which included bacon, egg, fried bread, cereal, toast and orange juice. They are now having a quick game of rounders before they head off to the Roman Camp where they will spend the rest of the day.
1.25 pm - The children have enjoyed their time at The Roman Fort, they have just finished a lovely lunch and are dressed as soldiers and are off to do battle!!!!

7.10 pm - A thoroughly enjoyable day spent at The Roman Fort rounded off with a play in the park. Dinner was delicious - melon to start, choice of gammon steak or pasta bolognaise with various accompaniments followed by fruit jelly and ice cream. The party are now venturing off for the "Ghost Walk". The weather has been glorious - blue sky and sunshine with additional drink/water stops scheduled into the day to keep the children well hydrated. All the children seem to be making the most of each activity and enjoying the experience with no signs of homesickness!!!!
10.00 pm - Just returning from the Ghost Walk - definitely the highlight of the trip so far. The Guide for the walk was fantastic (a wonderful Actor) and the children absolutely loved it (as did the adults). After a quick stop at the Fish & Chip Shop (for supper!), the children were making their way back to the Hotel and they were all looking forward to their beds (especially the adults!).
15.07.2011 - 9.05 am - Another peaceful night enjoyed by all. Breakfast has been enjoyed of scrambled egg, bacon and hash browns, cereal and toast and bags have been packed and rooms cleared. The Hotel marked the presentation of the rooms as "Good", "Very Good", "Excemplary" and comments have been made on the children's manners and politeness. The group are now preparing to head off back into the centre of York for the "dig". Full details later on updated arrival home times etc. More photographs added to slide show.
ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL BACK AT SCHOOL IS 4.45 PM
